The Polk County Reserve Unit is currently made up of 27 reserves. The reserve unit is an all-volunteer unit in which its personnel are sworn deputy sheriffs. All of its members are required to go through an extensive hiring process to include background checks an attending a seven month long Police Academy.

The reserve unit participates in all areas of the sheriff's office, to include Patrol, Security, Detectives, Marine Patrol, Jail or any other activity requested by the sheriff.

The "2003" Graduation from the multi-agency Reserve Academy put on by Marion County Sheriff's Office. The academy is held at Chemeketa Community College in Salem.
